Vosne Romanée Premier Cru Les Chaumes 2023
The holding is in the upper end of les Chaumes, below la Tache. A little more colour but still deliberately understated. The nose grows, and I’m finding some elegance here now compared to what I remember of past vintages. A little barrel note is evident, but in proportion to the fruit.

Savoury, chestnut nose (I’m sure I’ve picked this up on one or two other Vosne wines). Bosky and walnut-skin bitterness, sweet-and-sharp red berries, dried bitter orange peel and then something rather salty on the finish which seems to accentuate the fruit. Chewy tannins. Satisfying and robust. (TC)

A ripe yet still fresh nose offers good spice and discreet floral nuances to the aromas of mostly dark berries, plum and violet. There is a lovely mouthfeel to the caressing and seductively textured middleweight flavors that possess acceptable density, all wrapped in a supple if sneaky long finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. Note that this is could easily be enjoyed young, indeed even now if given some air first.

An energetic nose, abundant of floral ans spicy aromas. Nervy tension of crushed rose petal, brown sugar, and sherry skin permeate the nose, as beautiful baking spices comingle with desiccated cherry flesh, coriander and clove. The wine is generous, expansive and provocative. A.C.C.
